This type of sliding buckle may not be the most elegant in circulation, but it certainly is the most versatile when making your own bags. The loose bar has the tendency to self-lock both thin or thick straps because of the weight of the bag attached.

The inside dimension of a sliding buckle is provided on a strap of approximately the same width. One or 2 millimeters of play in either direction is perfectly ok.
