The Full Cover magnetic snap is designed to provide an exceptionally secure closure. The full metal cover helps support the magnet against shear and pulling forces, for example when an overfilled bag pushes the flap upwards.
And that brings us to an important point.
Using this magnetic snap on a fabric bag? Think carefully about reinforcement. This magnet is very good at doing what it is supposed to do: staying closed. Sometimes better than you might expect.
When you open the bag, that force has to go somewhere. With leather or a well-reinforced material, this is usually not a problem. With soft or lightweight fabrics, however, the fabric around the attachment point can become the weakest link. Make sure to reinforce a sufficiently large area around the magnetic snap.
The magnet is installed with prongs and a backing plate. Once assembled, the closure is approximately 3.2 mm thick, with the magnet itself completely concealed beneath the metal cap.
In short: a beautiful and powerful closure — but when using it on fabric bags, don't underestimate it. Make sure your bag is built at least as strong as your magnet.
